737 Chrome VPN Extensions Caught Routing Traffic Through Proxies. Check If You Have One
Researchers discovered 737 malicious Chrome VPN and proxy extensions that intercepted browser traffic and routed it through proxies, primarily targeting Russian-speaking users, with 274 of the extensions impersonating 66 legitimate services.
A massive set of 737 free VPN and proxy extensions for Chrome has been caught routing browser traffic through a proxy infrastructure, intercepting users' data. The extensions primarily targeted Russian-speaking users seeking access to blocked services. Published across at least 40 Chrome Web Store developer accounts, they accumulated 75,486 total installs. Among those identified, 274 extensions impersonated 66 legitimate services. Users are advised to check if they have any of the extensions installed.
